List Building With a Blog: Case Study

by Jorge · 0 comments

I will talk about a case study of the importance of consistency and choosing a topic that your are passionate about.

This is very important because if your are passionate about a topic it is more likely that you will stick to it for a long term period of time.

As John Reese once said that the more content you create the more chances you have to win the “Search Engine Game”. Your pieces of content are “lottery tickets” the more you put out the more chances you have to win.

I had a blog that i created called TheDailyMac.com and i buyed the domain on sedo.com a couple of years ago when i was trying many money making methods.

I no longer own thedailymac.com because i am focusing my efforts on other parts of my business and were you attention goes, money flows.

I buyed the domain and choose the topic only to make money, and not because i was passionate about Apple computers. I like apple and macs and i am writing this on my Macbook Pro, but i’am not an Apple Fan boy :)

So i built the blog and started to post on a daily basis, really shorts news posts of other technology blogs and stories that were interesting. I also linked back the source of the story.

I did it consistently for some time like for two months and i gained momentum because the iPhone was in launch process and my blog gained momentum.

You can see the google analytics stats below:

I gained momentum because i was referenced in a big popular video blog called the WebbAlert.com

You can watch the video here:

I got like 300 visitors from that mention, and that helped me to create even more content about many topics of apple and specially iPhone unlocking. I know how to unlock/jailbreak an iPhone so i knew something people wanted, and that information can be sold.

So that’s important. That when you create a blog and intend to use your blog for list building the market that you are in, is profitable.

Read this before you create a product, blog or start an internet business

At one point i had like 11,000+ visitors per month.

That’s a good amount of traffic for my effort but it was time consuming because i was not really passionate about the topic.

Also very little money came from my efforts because i was using google adsense and you need a lot of pageviews to crack the code of adsense.

So i was a Pageview slave, and earned the minimum wage…

I tried many different things like, putting banners from the Apple store and building a list to sell an iPhone unlocking guide i created.

At one point in christmas i sold like $6,000 dollars worth of products and i received a measly commission of $60 dollars from the Apple Store.

So the effort i was putting to the blog didn’t showed up for me so i got bored and i stoped writing.

The site has steady traffic of 100 visitors per day but that’s all because of the work that i had done for many months posting daily.

After all it is called the daily mac :)

I also built a list of about 75 people that were interested in unlocking their iphone and i tried to create a membership site about iphone unlocking but the concept and product was not right.

The importance of choosing the right market (money making market) and that you are passionate about the topic is critical for your success.

You can choose from these markets that are already making money.

  • Weight Loss
  • Dating and Relationships
  • Making Money (Forex, Stock Trading, Internet Marketing)

Get in front of the river of money and grab some.

Don’t create a product on an obscure or “virgin” market and then realize that nobody wants it.

In the Next post in the series i will be covering the topic of what Service i use and recommend to build a list with your blog.
